PhD control of light emission (Berlin)

Our group is active in ultrafast and ultracold science: Bringing together the concept of femtosecond pulse shaping and matter at temperatures close to zero allows for unprecedented quantum control. So far the coherence of laser light is used to manipulate matter. Within this challenging project, the successful candidate will investigate how tuning the light-matter interaction leads to the control of light emission. The project combines the treatment of the coupled light-matter dynamics (on various levels of approximation) with optimal control theory.

Qualifications:
A Diplom or Master's degree in physics with an excellent academic record and vigorous interest in theoretical work is required. We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with background in quantum optics and atomic/molecular physics, familiarity with linux/UNIX, and experience in at least one programming language.

We provide excellent working conditions in a young team enjoying the privilege of collaborating with many internationally renowned scientists. The position is available within SFB 450: Analysis and control of ultrafast photoinduced reactions as of July 2007 for a three-year duration. Salary will be according to German public service scale (2/3 BAT-IIa). Women are particularly encouraged to apply.

Please include a cover letter, detailed CV, short summary of Diplom or Master's thesis, and names and addresses (postal and e-mail) of two referees in your application.
