RTW Aachen -- PhD position in architecture group, ISS

The Institute for Integrated Signal Processing Systems of RWTH Aachen University has an immediate opening in the Architecture Design Group:

Research Assistant – PhD Candidate

Our interest is in the analysis and synthesis of algorithms and architectures for future complex wireless communication systems. The focus of the architecture group is on new design methodologies for energy efficient, flexible circuits. Main research topics of this group are architectures for Application Specific Instruction- set Processors (ASIPs), in particular, with reconfigurable extensions, and their synthesis onto modern deep sub-micron technologies. Of special interest is the trade-off between flexibility in software (programmability) and hardware (FPGA-type structures). These investigations are performed in collaboration with the institute's
algorithm and tool groups as well as with the interdisciplinary research teams of the research cluster "Ultra high-speed Mobile Information and Communication (UMIC)".

Your tasks:

* Research projects in close cooperation with industry
o ASIP Architecture Exploration and Implementation in modern Deep Sub-micron Technologies
o Energy efficiency vs. flexibility tradeoffs
* Teaching assistance (lecture exercises, labs, seminars)

Our requirements:

* Master's degree or equivalent in electrical engineering, communications or signal processing with excellent results
* Sound knowledge of programming in HDL (VHDL or Verilog) and of gate-level synthesis. Skills in the area of C/C++ are beneficial.
* Excellent communication skills, must be a team player
* Good proficiency in oral and written English. German is beneficial.

Our team-oriented style of work and a cooperative leadership concept will give you the necessary freedom for your scientific research with a high degree of motivation, personal responsibility and creativity. Payment is based on TV-L 13 (federal salary rate) and the duration is limited to five years.
RWTH Aachen University aims at increasing the proportion of women among the scientific staff and thus encourages qualified women to apply. Handicapped applicants with the respective qualifications are favoured. For further information please contact: Dipl.-Ing. David Kammler, Tel.: +49 241 8028256
