Smart State Queensland: Growing the Smart State PhD Funding Program

Round Six July 2007

Growing the Smart State PhD Funding Program

Applications for Round Six of the Growing the Smart State PhD Funding Program opened on 2 July 2007 and close on 14 August 2007. Applications must be submitted to the UQ Graduate School.

Visit http://www.uq. edu.au/grad- school/gss for details on assistance
for UQ applicants.

The awards offer up to $15 000 over three years towards research costs for PhD students registered at Queensland Universities. As well as receiving funding, successful recipients are linked with a Queensland Government mentor for the term of their research project, providing an opportunity for networks with the Queensland Government, access to data sets if needed and input into drawing policy implications from the research.

Your research could one day benefit all Queenslanders. If you think your research could inform the development of future public policy, visit our website to find out more.

For many past recipients, this funding has been vital:

· The program allowed me to buy some expensive chemicals without which my research couldn¢t have gone ahead.

· My government mentor and his colleagues have been critical to finding creative solutions to my research problem.

· Without the funding I would not have been able to purchase essential equipment, nor been able to employ research assistants for data collection - both essential to the completion of my project.
