Beschreibung:
The candidates shall carry out scientific research in projects related to fundamentals of laser speckle, light transport in random media and its application to soft materials, photonic materials and biomedical imaging. The work will be carried out in the Soft Matter Optics group (Prof. Frank Scheffold). Detailed information about the groups research agenda can be found at http://www.unifr. ch/physics/ mm/optics/
These experimental projects address transport properties of multiply scattered Laser light in nano- and mesoscopically structured complex media. Space and time averaged statistical properties of the optical speckle pattern shall be analyzed. Tuning both the properties of the incident light waves and the distribution of scatterers influences, in a non-trivial way, the transport of light and its distribution. In a parallel project the analysis of laser speckle will be used to image brain function using frequency tunable laser sources and low coherent light.
The project will be carried out with state of the art laser equipment, single photon detection and CCD imaging devices. Some knowledge in statistical mechanics and/or optics is of advantage. Good knowledge in programming will be a plus (C++, MathLab and/or Labview).
Fribourg is a medieval town in the vicinity of the Alps located between Bern and Lausanne along the main Swiss road and train axis. Spoken languages are French and German. Working language is English.
We are looking for excellent candidates with a degree in physics or related. (Start October 1st 2007 or later). A competitive salary is offered. Initial funding is assured for 3 years (PhD). Candidates should send their application including: A brief letter of motivation, full curriculum vitae and the names of at least two references.
