Core Brief:
- To conduct a Life Cycle Analysis of grass production in temperate oceanic Northern Europe;
- To assess the carbon balance and the associated greenhouse gas emission associated with the production of grass as a feedstock for production of biogas;
- To apply environmental impact assessments of land use options in Ireland in terms of carbon, nutrient and water efficiencies.
- To produce the final report for the Environmental Protection Agency entitled "Compressed Biomethane Generated from Grass used as a Transport Fuel."

Background to Project
The Environmental Research Institute, University College Cork and Teagasc, Johnstown Castle, are partners in a project "Compressed biomethane generated from grass, utilised as a transport biofuel," led by University College Cork, and funded by the EPA as part of the Science, Technology, Research & Innovation for the Environment (STRIVE) Programme 2007 - 2013. A senior post doctorate with responsibility for documenting the process of production of biomethane from grass is already employed and situated in UCC.
We are now seeking to recruit a Post Doctorate to conduct a desk study on the EIA of silage production systems managed for biogas generation. The ideal candidate will have active research experience with agronomic, grass-based production systems, and with modelling of nutrient flows and life cycle analyses.
