Program Description: Annual program to help enlarge the pool of talented Ph.D.s in areas of importance to IBM. Intended for students wishing to pursue a career in research. Open to students of any nationality.
Areas of Study: computer science and engineering, electrical and mechanical engineering , physical sciences (including chemistry, material sciences, and physics), mathematical sciences (including optimization) , business sciences (including financial services, communication, and learning/knowledge ), and service sciences, management, and engineering
Levels of Study: applicants must be enrolled full-time in a college or university Ph.D. program, and they should have completed at least one year of study in their doctoral program at the time of their nomination
Award Types: fellowship-internsh ip
Average Award Amount: $17,500
Award Coverage: tuition and fees, plus a stipend
Award Duration: one nine-month academic year
Eligibility Requirements: There are no citizenship requirements. Students must be nominated by a faculty member and should have completed at least one year of graduate study. IBM encourages nominations of women and minorities. Non-U.S. Citizens who wish to participate in an internship in the U.S. must obtain work authorization under the specifics of their particular visa.
Students are expected to intern (with pay) at an IBM research or development laboratories. Awards are renewable for up to three years contingent on continued progress and achievement.
